A corn maiden carved out of apple coral and adorned with turquoise dots. Apple coral is part of the species of corals known as melithaea sponge, which is commonly found on the ocean floors around the waters of Taiwan, Indonesia and southern China.

The Corn Maiden is an important character in Zuni lore. She is representative of the maidens that saved the Zuni people from starvation by bringing back the corn crop.
